My name is Max,I am a soldier in World War One. France and Germany are at the brink or war, because France doesn't want Germany to take over Morocco. I wish that we had a stronger army, Germany has a very strong army and a lot of good weapons. I hope that we can win this war and beat Germany, so that we will be able to take over Morocco!!
When I was younger my father told me about the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungry. There was a group of people from Serbia called the "Black Hands" they were the ones that killed the Archduke. I wonder why they killed him????

The war is getting really big now, it seems longer every single day. I haven't got a lot of sleep lately. There are more countries coming into the war now. I think that if we used the artillery the French could win the war, because its very powerful and it can kill a lot of people from distances far away. I think we should have the artilleries set up in a lot of different places, so that when Germany comes near we could just kill all of their troops using the artillery. We stay in the trenches for months at a time.. There are machine guns here too. It is very packed, and it creates stalemate, because both sides were in the trenches and if anyone raised their head above the trench they would get shot at. So neither side could shoot or anything.

When Russia left the war and the U.S.A came into the war it helped us a lot, the U.S.A has a very well trained and good army and they joined on our side. Russia's exit really didn'nt effect us very much if any at all, they were not a very big help becuase thy did'nt have a strong army. The U.S. came into the war because of the submarine warfare. The U.S. used to be neutral, but now that Germany bombed a submarine that had Americans on it. When the submarine got bombed, it killed 128 American citizens. President Woodrow Wilson was not very happy about this.

Today is Christmas day, it's a whole lot better than it usually is around camp. We have trees decorated and we also have lights hung up it looks really cool. We can even go around and exchange chocolates! I'm so excited!! We don't even have to go and fight! If the war was like this everyday I would half way enjoy it. The weather is really nice, well kind of, it's really sunny and there isn't even a cloud in the sky. It's so cold though, well I'm just happy we didn't have to fight. Well i'll be going now.
There is a treaty called the Treat of Versailles, I'm so happy! It is making Germany pay a whole bunch of fees, because of all of the damage they have done, the treaty also says that Germany was the cause of this whole war! So really soon we all get to go home. How exciting is that!?! The French also get Alsace and Lorraine back. The people back in France will be so, so, so happy about that.

This last week has been great!! We have been packing and saying our goodbyes to everyone that we have met during the war. I can't believe that this war is finally over. I do have to admit I will miss a lot of the people i have met. Hopefully we can keep in touch with eachother. I am so very excited to get home and see my family and all of my friends back home. Just three more days, until we all leave. This is great!

Wow I just got home 3 days ago and I am just now writing back, everyone back here in France are celebrating that we now have back Alsace, and Lorraine. In my home city of Paris we are having a big gathering with all of the French soldiers and their families. Hopefully Daniel will be able to attend I have been looking forward to meeting his family and seeing him again. Oh I still have to tell how my family is doing, well my wife Caroline is doing great, and my son stephane is so much bigger than he was when I left my mom and dad, well they're both very very sick and are in the hospital, the doctor has only gave them 5 more months to live. This was the worst part of coming back home.

May 21,1918
I just got horrible news, my friend Daniel from war has died of influenza. I will be going to his funeral next week i hope his family and friends are ok. I really can't take very much more deaths. i have saw way too many in my life. It will be about 4 months until my mom and dad are expected to die, that will be horrible I don't know what i'll do.
